What will we do with the money?
Purchase 5 new lane lines for swim meets and practice
Why do we deserve to win?
We are a large rural school district (110 square miles) located in central New York. Our school district has very limited resources since our main industries are dairy farming and higher education. During the last school budget, $2.1 million was cut from the amount budgeted for the previous year’s budget since the state aid was being cut by that amount. Sports equipment was one area that saw cuts. The girls and their parents have done fund raising for the electronic timing system, up grades and scoreboard. These fundraisers have totaled more than $26,000 for equipment over 16 years to have a facility meeting the standards of up to date accurate timing of swim meets. The lane lines now need to be replaced after many years of use, over 25 years. Lane lines get a lot of wear and tear since they go into the pool for every practice or meet and must be removed after every day’s use. Lane lines are essential to reduce the wave resistance.
Where did we hear about the Gear up for Grants Contest?
Amy Rhault, a former member of the swim team and an employee of CooperVision, emailed our coaching staff.
Who on our team would benefit from contact lens?
Several swimmers and divers (8) wear contact lenses in practice and when competing. Our athletes need to be able to see the end walls, backstroke flags, and diving board to avoid injury and perform well with confidence.
