Kahuku High School Girls Volleyball Visualizing Success Gear Up for Sports
Why does our team deserve to win it?
Our team deserves to win the Gear Up grant because of two reasons. The first reason is that many of the girls on the team who require corrective lenses moved to using contacts because it improved our performance in practice and on the court. We are not just saying this, you can even ask our eye doctors. The second reason is that we have had the same equipment for many years and we don’t even have enough equipment to do what we need to in order to play. We are a small rural school who is often overlooked when it comes to budgeting for sports. Often we are given used equipment from private schools when their equipment gets old and run down and they get new equipment.
What would you do with the money?
Our team has a great desire this year to win States here in Hawaii. We are one of only two public schools that made it to the semi-finals in states and we lost to a private school. In order for us to compete and take the championship we feel that we need to have better equipment to match our goal of winning. We would purchase a new volleyball net, new volleyballs, some safety equipment for the players, and other volleyball training equipment that our coach has his eye on.
Does at least one person on the team wear contacts?
Several girls on the team wear contacts. They feel that their contacts are as important as their other gear that they put on to practice and play. Many of them were willing to see if contacts improved their performance. All of the ones who did, feel that their performance has improved ten fold.
Where did we hear about the contest?
Our coach received an email just yesterday (June 24, 2010) from another coach. We are hoping that our quickly put together movie meets your requirements and we hope we can be considered for the grant. We greatly need support from organizations such as yours, in order to be as successful as we see ourselves in our future. Thank you for your consideration.
